I used to make mud pies in the backyard when I was 4 for my mother. We were living in British Columbia at the time and during the soggy months, I’d make them in a plastic container and then ring the doorbell and deliver them to her; she was my customer. Well, depending on the career that you choose, things might not change much. When I come back from a location photo session, if I’m not dirty (or wet) then I may have missed something.

Especially when you photograph kids – get down to their level. Don’t be afraid to get dirty or grass stained or wet. If you do, you’ll have a better chance of getting a shot that captures them, because it matches their vantage point of the world.
